Questions families ask

If your question is not here, call us.

What is ABA therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. It teaches skills step by step, measures progress in each session and changes the plan when something is not working.

Our services

Who provides the therapy?

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) assesses your child, writes the plan and supervises it. Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), trained and supervised by the behavior analyst, work with your child in sessions. Some plans also include a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA).

About us

Does insurance cover ABA?

Many health plans cover ABA therapy, and Medicaid covers it for eligible children. Coverage depends on your plan: we check it with you before services start, including what it needs first, such as a diagnosis, a referral or an approval.

Do we need a diagnosis to start?

Most insurers ask for a diagnosis, such as autism spectrum disorder, from a qualified professional before they approve ABA. If you do not have one yet, we can explain the usual steps.

How to get started

How many hours a week?

It depends on your child. After the assessment, the behavior analyst recommends a number of hours, and your insurer approves them. The plan is reviewed and can change over time.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions can happen at home, in the community, at school when the school allows it, or in a center, depending on your child’s goals and what your insurance covers. Some parts, like caregiver training, may happen by video when your plan allows it.

Our services

Can I be there during sessions?

Yes. Families are part of the plan, and for in-home sessions an adult caregiver usually needs to be home. Ask us what applies to your child’s sessions.

For families

How long until services start?

It depends on your insurance’s approval and on the team available in your area. We will tell you what to expect when you contact us and keep you informed.

How to get started

How do you protect my family’s information?

Your child’s information is protected health information under HIPAA. We use it only to provide and pay for care and as the law allows, and we explain your rights in our Notice of Privacy Practices.

What if we need to cancel a session?

Let us know as early as you can. We will explain our cancellation policy when services start.
